Which way should a ceiling fan turn during summer?

Hey everyone Titan Handyman putting out a quick post about ceiling fans. This is one question I seem to get called quite a bit for. I don’t mind answering the question, Specially since its usually a 30 second call for you local handyman. So I’d like to make a post just so people know whats going on and which way to make the fan spin.

Which way should a ceiling fas turn during summer? Short answer, incase your in hurry and just want to know. Is “Counter-Clockwise”, or if your someone who uses “lefty loosey, righty tighty” It will be “Lefty Loosey”.

So now that we have that out of the way let me explain why. During the summer you want the fan spinning counter clockwise so the fan will pull up the hot air. Sounds weird right? Your remember in school how they would say “hot air rises to the top” well its true. Thats why basements are always the coldest room in the house. If you ever lived in a 2 story house in an extremely cold place. You probably noticed that the first floor never quite seems warm enough, but as soon as you walk up the stairs its like a sauna. Well, hot air rises to the top. So with the ceiling fan its the same thing, your just helping the room a bit. By spinning the fan counter clockwise you are pulling all the hot air to the ceiling. Now its not going to create miracles at all but it will help by a couple degrees. Specially at night during those hot summers.

If you ever are in need of a local handyman, Give us a call. We’d be glad to help you out.
